Reviews
After waiting months for this book to arrive after being backordered, I was very disappointed in the quality of the arrangements in this book. They're simplified when played as written and don't sound nearly as majestic and soaring as the recorded versions do. I had expected something a little more elaborate and/or complex after Pasek and Paul's songbook for their Broadway musical 'Dear Evan Hansen' included more advanced/complicated arrangements that closer mimicked the cast recording. If you're an expert piano player like me, I find that this book is more of a guideline on how to play the songs from the movie, and if you use the chord symbols included in the book and disregard the written notes, you can dress these arrangement up and give them a little more punch than written. The arrangements in this book are not meant for vocalists either, with the melody written into the right hand arrangements. Including the melody in the arrangements contributes to the thin-sounding, simplified final products received. Please note that these arrangements appear to be identical to the digital versions sold on MusicNotes.com and SheetMusicDirect.us, but buying them in the book form saves you quite a few bucks (digital versions are $9.99/song, which comes to $100 if purchased individually), so it's definitely a better buy to purchase this book.
